The SNAPPYS — a night with Snapchat’s top creators
Snapchat threw the SNAPPYS — an awards show for the platform's top creators — at its Santa Monica headquarters. I covered the night, arrivals through afterparty.
The carpet was yellow. Matt Friend hosted. David Dobrik took Creator of the Year, Kylie Jenner won Comeback Star, DJ Khaled got the lifetime achievement award, and Love Island's Nic Vansteenberghe picked one up for Off-Platform Buzz. JoJo Siwa, Harry Jowsey, and Dixie D'Amelio were in the room. At the afterparty, Candiace Dillard Bassett got on the mic.
The job doesn't change because the guest list is famous: document the event and deliver the goods. Snap's team needed two kinds of files from the same night — clean brand documentation for marketing, and candids fast enough for social. They got both: the carpet, the stage, the winners, the branded environment, the crowd, and the afterparty.
