Opening night at 700 Broadway, Santa Monica

700 Broadway opened in Santa Monica with a golden-hour rooftop reception, and I covered the night for the launch — developers, city representatives, tenants, and invited guests, the formal remarks, the networking, and the architecture of a new commercial building coming online near downtown Santa Monica.

Real-estate and development launches are their own kind of event photography: the building is a subject, the people are the proof it drew the right room, and the client needs both — clean frames of the space and honest coverage of the guests who showed up. The rooftop light did a lot of the work here; the job was to be in position when it peaked.
